The transformation mechanism of ofloxacin (OFL) by chlorine dioxide disinfection in water distribution system: kinetics, byproducts and toxicity

چکیده

Abstract There is a research gap on the transformation of ofloxacin (OFL) in water supply systems under action ClO2. The degradation kinetics OFL different ClO2 concentrations, pH and pipe materials, formation intermediates, as well toxicity were first studied. results showed that PE deionized increased with increase concentration, reaction followed second-order kinetic model. removal rate was faster than pipe. tube positively correlated pH. In addition, efficiency pipes followed: cast iron > stainless steel detection intermediates cleavage piperazine groups main initial products process OFL. decarboxylation quinolone also detected. aquatic test by would water, therefore, decrease may not mean toxicity.

Kinetics and mechanism of bacterial disinfection by chlorine dioxide.

Survival data are presented for a fecal strain of Escherichia coli exposed to three concentrations of chlorine dioxide at four temperatures. Chick's first-order reaction equation is generalized to a pseudo nth-order model. Nonlinear least squares curve-fitting of the survival data to the nth order model was performed on an analogue computer. The data were observed to follow fractional order kin...

Drinking water disinfection byproducts: review and approach to toxicity evaluation.

There is widespread potential for human exposure to disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in drinking water because everyone drinks, bathes, cooks, and cleans with water. The need for clean and safe water led the U.S. Congress to pass the Safe Drinking Water Act more than 20 years ago in 1974. In 1976, chloroform, a trihalomethane (THM) and a principal DBP, was shown to be carcinogenic in rodents. Thi...

Chlorine in water disinfection

Disinfection of drinking-water is one of the main achievements of our time in the protection of public health. The use of chlorine for the destruction of microbiological pathogens is essential to protect the public from outbreaks of waterborne disease. Chlorine, as well as other disinfectants, produces a variety of chemical by-products. The risk from the presence of microbial pathogens in drink...

Kinetics and mechanism of the chlorine dioxide-trithionate reaction.

The trithionate-chlorine dioxide reaction has been studied spectrophotometrically in a slightly acidic medium at 25.0 ± 0.1 °C in acetate/acetic acid buffer monitoring the decay of chlorine dioxide at constant ionic strength (I = 0.5 M) adjusted by sodium perchlorate. We found that under our experimental conditions two limiting stoichiometries exist and the pH, the concentration of the reactant...

Disinfection by-products of chlorine dioxide (chlorite, chlorate, and trihalomethanes): Occurrence in drinking water in Qatar.

The occurrence of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) disinfection by-products (DBPs) in drinking water, namely, chlorite, chlorate, and trihalomethanes (THMs), was investigated. Two-hundred-ninety-four drinking water samples were collected from seven desalination plants (DPs), four reservoirs (R), and eight mosques (M) distributed within various locations in southern and northern Qatar. The ClO2 concentra...
